NRF cooperation

The Establishment of New Cooperation between Czech Science Foundation (GACR) and National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF)

On 8 June 2005 a Memorandum of Understanding on Research Cooperation between the Czech Science Foundation (GACR) and the Korea Research Foundation, (KRF) presently National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF), was signed in Prague. The main objective of this Memorandum is to establish and increase cooperation in research and development between researchers and institutions of these two countries; in order to enable the better exchange of information and techniques in the areas of common interest.

In relation with signed Memorandums of Understanding the first pilot Call for proposal was published in June 2006. Cooperation with KRF continued in 2007 and in 2008 as well. The Presidium of the Czech Science Foundation published on March 9, 2011 the Call for Proposals for bilateral grant projects in cooperation with NRF with deadline on April 15, 2011.
Expected start of the project is: January 1, 2012.

Contact person at the NRF is Won Keun Choi, e-mail: onekeun@nrf.re.kr, tel: +82-2-3460-5722 and fax: +82-2-3460-5630.

Project proposal is submitted to GACR by on-line application. The proposal goes through the standard evaluation process. It is evaluated by peer review system and by ad hoc committees, which are formed of specialists relevant to project’s theme.

The final decision on the funding of the bilateral project proposal will depend on the final approval from both research funding organizations (NRF and GACR).

The cooperation between GACR and KRF has successfully started. The first step was mutual Korean and Czech scientific Pilot workshop, which was held in Prague on 6 and 7 December 2005. The workshop was chaired by the representative of Korea Research Foundation professor Hyup Choi and by the GACR President professor Josef Syka. Ten top-range Korean scientists informed Czech colleagues about the state of their scientific fields. Korean scientists also visited several Czech scientific institutions.

Within the framework of the first Call for Proposals in 2006 GACR received nine bilateral project proposals. Grant was awarded to five of them. Projects started on 1 January, 2007 with duration of three years.

Call for Proposals for 2007 has been already published on 18 April. Deadline for submission applications to GACR was 1 June, 2007, deadline for KRF was 10 May, 2007. GACR received 9 project proposals. None of them were awarded in 2007.

Within the 2008 Call for Proposals the GACR received 7 project proposals. A grant was awarded to the one project proposal.
