INFORMATION ABOUT THE SEVENTH FRAMEWORK PROGRAMME AND ERA-NET PROGRAMME

The Seventh Framework Programme for research and technological development (FP7)
is the European Union's chief instrument for funding research over the period 2007 to 2013.

FP7 is divided into four programmes:
Cooperation - supports all types of research activities carried out by different research bodies in transnational cooperation and aims to gain or consolidate leadership in key scientific and technology areas. The Cooperation programme is sub-divided into ten themes.
Ideas - investigator driven basic research;
People - strengthening the human potential in research;
Capacities - aims to enhance research and innovation capacities.

The objective of the ERA-NET scheme is to step up the cooperation and coordination of research activities carried out at national or regional level in the Member States and Associated States through:
- the networking of research activities conducted at national or regional level
- the mutual opening of national and regional research programmes.

The Seventh Framework Programme

ERA-NET Programmes

  • are concentrated on coordination regional and national research programmes;
  • are not aimed for researchers but for organizations, which are responsible for funding and coordination of research (e.g. ministries and science foundations);
  • emphasize long-term cooperation.
