Introduction

Department of International Relations, which was established in 2004, deals with all the GACR international activities and projects within the framework of international cooperation. Its aim is to serve all branches of science by funding research projects and facilitating cooperation among researchers.

The GACR is a member of European Science Foundation (ESF) and has Czech representatives in its permanent Scientific Standing Committees. It is also a member of European Heads of Research Councils (EuroHORCs).

The GACR believes that international cooperation and competition contribute to the quality of research. The GACR contributes to integration of Czech scientists into the international scientific community, and it also significantly elevates the level of research and makes it possible to achieve world-level results.

In order to further internationalize research and research funding the GACR has been actively developing its relations with international and foreign scientific organizations and foundations all over the world, especially in the European Research Area. It increases the international visibility of Czech research and public awareness about science and research.

Department of International Relations prepared closer cooperation with the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), with Korea Research Foundation (KRF) - presently a part of the National Science Foundation of Korea (NRF) and with National Science Council of Taiwan (NSC). Cooperation agreements were signed with all of them. It enables us to expand international scientific cooperation.

Czech Science Foundation improved its position in the framework of Czech science and became an integral part of European Science.
