Presidium
The Czech Science Foundation is administered by a Presidium, appointed by the Government of the Czech Republic. The Presidium is authorized to organize
tenders for scientific and research projects and to award grants.
The basic work of the Presidium is annually scheduled as follows:
- on-going projects are evaluated and, on the basis of recommendation by the discipline committees, funds are allocated for another year of work (February, March)
- publish Call for Proposals with deadline (beginning of April)
- the final report of completed projects is performed; reports are approved on the basis of recommendation by the discipline committees (May)
- evaluation of the project proposals
- grants are awarded for newly commenced projects (November and December)
The GACR Presidium is headed by the President. Members of the Presidium are elected for four years for maximum of two subsequent terms. Each member is responsible for one of the scientific areas. The President represents GACR and acts in its name in all relevant matters. The Presidium consists of five members:

Prof. PhDr. Petr Matějů, PhD.
President of the GACRSocial Sciences and Humanities
Born on July 22, 1950, studied at Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Philosophy (graduation in 1972 in Sociology), at the University of Wisconsin in Madison (1987), and at Masaryk University in Brno. In 2004 he was appointed Professor of Sociology. He taught sociology at universities both at home and abroad (Faculty of Social Studies of Masaryk University in Brno, Anglo-American College in Prague, University of California at Los Angeles, Northwestern University in Evanston, etc.).
Between 1991 and 2010 he chaired the Department of the Sociology of Education and Stratification at the Institute of Sociology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Between September 2006 and January 2007 he served as Deputy Minister for Research and Higher Education. From 1998 to 2003 he was a member of the Czech Parliament (chairing the Committee for Science and Higher Education) and served as a member of the Czech permanent delegation to the Council of Europe. In July 2002 he established the Institute for Economic and Social Analyses, an independent think-tank designed to address and promote reform processes and policies. Currently he is affiliated to The School of Political Studies - CEVRO Institute in Prague (principal guarantor of the study programme Social Analyses). At the same time, he works as an expert for the project "Tertiary Education Reform" carried out by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports under the European operational programme Education for Competitiveness.
He is a member of the editorial board of the Czech Sociological Review, member of the Scientific Board of Masaryk University in Brno, Scientific Board of the Faculty of Social Studies of Masaryk University in Brno, Scientific Board of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Masaryk University in Brno, Academic Council of the School of Political Studies - CEVRO Institute, and member of the Academic Assembly of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Since 2006 he has also been a member of the Council for Research and Development.
His main research interests have focused on social inequality, social and distributive justice, the formation of political attitudes and voting behaviour, educational and occupational mobility, social transformation in Central and Eastern Europe, and comparative research in education, competitiveness and innovation. He is the co-author or editor of 4 books and has published more than 30 papers in impacted journals. He is one of the three most cited Czech sociologists.

Prof. RNDr. Ivan Netuka, DrSc.
Physical SciencesIvan Netuka was born on July 7, 1944. He studied at Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, where he graduated in Mathematics in 1967. He was subsequently awarded (the equivalent of) a PhD in 1972, appointed Associate Professor in 1979 and awarded the degree of Doctor of Sciences in 1985. In 1986, he was appointed Professor of Mathematics. Since 1969, he has been teaching at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University.
He is a well-known expert in mathematical analysis and a leading figure in the Prague School of Potential Theory. In this field he has published a substantial series of original papers. Besides mathematical analysis he is also interested in the history of mathematics. He has frequently been invited to universities abroad and participated at many international conferences, often as an invited speaker. In addition he has had longer research and teaching stays in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, U.S.A. and the UK.
Between 1993 and 1999 he served as a Deputy Dean and Vice-Dean, and for the period from 1999 to 2005 he was Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University in Prague. He is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Commentationes Mathematicae Universitatis Carolinae and a member of the Editorial Board of the European Mathematical Society Newsletter, Central European Journal of Mathematics and Advances in Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy.
At present, he is Director of the Mathematical Institute of Charles University, a member of Scientific Councils of several Czech universities and a member of the Academic Assembly of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. He also works as a representative of the Czech Republic in the Program Committee of Capacities - International Cooperation, 7th FP EU.
He has received several foreign honours - Corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences, Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques, Österrechisches Ehrenkreuz für Wissenschaft und Kunst I. Klasse - as well as several distinctions from Charles University, the Academy of Sciences and the Union of Czech Mathematicians and Physicists.
